Monessen woman killed in crash

A Monessen woman died after being involved in a two-vehicle accident in Hempfield Township.

Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Gerald Fritz said Pauline Alesiani, 84, of 17 Scenery Blvd., was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Herman.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, Herman Alesiani was attempting to turn left into the parking lot of DeLallo's Italian Marketplace, Fritz said, when his Buick Regal was hit by a Jeep traveling east on Route 30.

Pauline Alesiani was taken to Mercy Jeannette Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:41 p.m.

Fritz said a cause of death had not been established, adding that the coroner's office may conduct an autopsy .

John Howell, chief of the High Park Volunteer Fire Department, said Pauline Alesiani had to be extricated from the car.

After firefighters cut the door off the Buick, emergency medical personnel began to treat her.

The accident caused a backup of traffic on Route 30 for a short time.

"(The vehicles in the accident) were off the roadway when they got on the scene," Howell said. "Traffic was backed up some because the rescue units were on the road."

Responding to the scene in addition to High Park were Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Hempfield Township Fire Rescue, Mercy Jeannette Life Support, Jeannette Rescue 12 and state police at Greensburg.

Pauline Alesiani's obituary appears on Page 5B.
