Artists and Profiles

In this chapter we will tell you about the artists who made the records for this label so far. We begin with the most productive of them:

Name    : Erwin Pek, a.k.a.'s: Tom Tombi, Toxic Waste, D.J. E.M.P., Lunatic E. and Time Mode.

Erwin Pek started as a D.J. in the early 90's. His biggest success was a spot on the D.J.-team in Nighttown, Rotterdam on Thursday nights. Early 1994 he started making music. At first some tracks under different aliases on the "This Is Mellow CD Series", later on 12". After his first real record (co-produced with Gert-Jan Mudde) he went solo as Toxic Waste. This is his main project. He chose this name because it reminds him of his (former) home town Lekkerkerk where in 1980 an environmental scandal surfaced with large dumping of chemical waste. The photo on that record was made there.

The second Toxic Waste record was a co-production with André van den Bosch (also known as De Bos). Since then he produced all his records on his own and only on Hazy Groove Records. His musical heroes are Ramon Zenker, Carl Craig and Orlando Voorn. In his spare time he enjoys listening to Nirvana, Live and Pearl Jam. His plans for 1998 are making an album, performing live and trying other musical styles. His last "Toxic Waste" release is just out on M-Track Records (MT-028) called "Underground Frequencies Vol. 1".

He started in May 1999 his own label called Up Records together with Gerrit van IJzeren. Sadly enough he died on July 30th, 2000, in Brussels, Belgium in a car crash, together with his girlfriend.

Other artists on Hazy Groove Records are:

Gerrit van IJzeren a.k.a. Inter-Mediate

If you listen to his first record (Final Frontier EP), you will understand that his main interest is drum 'n bass and break beat music. He's also a very accomplished D.J. and graffiti artist. He started in May 1999 his own label called Up Records together with Erwin Pek. His e-mail address is up-records@wxs.nl.

R.K. a.k.a. Rephlex 1

R.K. started first as a D.J. before making music. He played at various clubs (like Nighttown Basement in Rotterdam and Het Paard in The Hague).

Bas Voorn a.k.a. Dutch Frying System

Bas is the stage manager at the 013 club (the former Noorderligt) in Tilburg. He's also a member of the organizing committee of "The Lab" events over there. At this moment he's recording and performing under the names Solo Moderna and Combo Moderna. He has his own site at http://www.myspace.com/solomoderna, and his e-mail addresses are bossa@hetnet.nl, solomoderna@socialbeats.com and combomoderna@socialbeats.com.

More detailed profiles about these artists will follow later.
