It had also great
impact on the
local population because the fight and the crash of this B-17G was
seen by a large number of people of the surrounding villages. The
injured crew
were taken care of by people living nearby, where the human suffering
of the war was very clear to be seen. Later, the remains of 2
crewmembers, Harland V. Sunde and Doyle C. McCutchen, were taken from
the river Lek and almost 12
years later, during the salvage of the plane, they were confronted
again with this crash, because the remains of John F. Healy were
found. An event in which soldiers from overseas fought
for our freedom, so that we won't forget them.
To realize a
fitting memorial for the crewmembers of this B-17G 'Mission Belle', we
need finances and hope for your support. To achieve our goal, we
approach local and provincial authorities, special funds,
companies and private persons.
